St Barths Bucket Regatta

St Barths Bucket March 25-28, 2010

The St Barths Bucket, (pursuit race around St Barths), is a serious race for the crew and yacht owners alike given that the entry fee tops 7500€ but the over ending theme to the event is to have fun and enjoy the party.
The race is an invitational event open to yachts over 100ft. Some of the yachts you might see are the impressive Perini Navis including the 184ft Salute, 154ft Andromeda La Dea or 148ft Helios. One to watch for at the line is Ranger, a 137’ J boat replica of the original 1937 built Ranger but with modern technology, is as beautiful to look at as she is to sail…in 2008 she was first in her class at the Rolex Maxi World Cup.
If one is not lucky enough to be offered a position or “ride” on one of these magnificent boats, why not charter your own boat and join in with the other spectators. St Barths boasts some beautiful beaches (and fabulous food) as does St Martin and nearby Anguilla. Your captain would be able to provide an itinerary that could incorporate some race venues as well as plenty of time to spend on Nikki beach – think South Beach meets St Tropez- in the trendy St Jean area of St Barths.

South Pacific Island Groups

Next season Alexis will be off to the Marqueses in French Polynesia. They will be there from about the end of April. From May through to October they will be making way through the South Pacific island groups to Australia which they will reach in Early November 2010. These island groups will be as follows; Marqueses, Tuamotu archipelago, Tahiti and Bora Bora, Cook islands, American Samoa and or Tonga, Fiji, New Caledonia, Brisban Australia.They will be available for charter anywhere they might be at the time during their voyage through the South Pacific. It is never to early to start planning your Christmas Holiday. The festive season is one of the busiest times of the year and many people are discovering Christmas in the Caribbean. Flights tend to be sold out early on so start looking now.

Caribbean hurricane season

Summer in the Caribbean equals lower rates. This time is also known as hurricane season with the peak being August – October. While many Caribbean charter yachts head to the boat yard for some maintenance and R&R, many are still hard at work chartering.

Popular beaches and anchorages may be less crowded, likewise you will also find that many restarants and small resorts are also closed for a month or two. So beware, those favorite watering holes that you visited in the winter months may not be open for business.

The southern caribbean such as Aruba and Bonaire are known to be in a hurricane free zone. The popular Eastern Caribbean and US East Coast are most at risk mid-August to mid-September.

While there are many deals to be found we, at Regency Yacht Vacations, recommend that you purchase trip insurance to protect yourself incase bad weather heads your way.
